It is now official: Stefano Domenicali will stay in charge as CEO and President of Formula 1 until 2029, having been granted a second four-year mandate.

Does his contract extension mean good news for the pinnacle of motorsport and its fans? Let’s try to understand it together.

It is undeniable that the Italian has had a great impact on the highest category of single-seaters, especially from a commercial point of view.

The former Ferrari team principal has, in fact, ‘taken advantage’ of the fantastic 2021 World Championship fight (whose protagonists answer to the names of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen) to increase F1’s popularity as much as possible.

This process has undoubtedly brought considerable economic and numerical returns, but all of that didn’t come without the cost of sacrificing racing tradition.
