The Chinese GP has ended and it was a race poor of overtakes and twists
As the race started Norris took P2 immediately and started catching for Piastri. Leclerc made contact with his teammate Hamilton, breaking his front wing, but he decided to stay out and wait for the stop. He never changed the wing as it would cost too much in time terms. Russell maintained a good pace right behind the McLaren. Leclerc always stayed on Hamilton’s tail despite his broken wing. Thanks to this he was really fast on the straight. During the first stint everyone more or less started to struggle with graining on the front left tyre but everybody managed this problem with efficiency.
When the stops started around the 12th lap Ferrari tried to do an undertake on Rusell with Hamilton in the 14th lap but the British Ferrari driver got stuck in traffic so the Mercedes driver maintained P3. Russell instead succeeded in taking P2 with an incredible undertake on Norris in lap 17th. However Norris took back the second position right after by force. Antonelli tried to keep his position on Ocon but he got overtaken on lap 16th by the Haas driver, who went a bit out of the track to pass him. Hard tyres didn’t have any graining so lap times were pretty much stable.
After the stops the two Ferrari drivers swapped positions in order to try to catch the podium as Charles had more pace than his teammate. The monegasque driver catched up with Russell but he had difficulties in passing him since he was very slow in T13. Bearman showed some talent as he passed Gasly in lap 41 taking 10th position and taking his first point as a rookie.
On lap 38 Hamilton pitted again for new hard tyres. This cost him the 5th position, which was taken by Max. Doohan got a 10 second penalty for forcing Hadjar off the track. Max passed Charles on lap 53, doing an incredible cross-over in T2.
The race ended with a McLaren 1-2 as Piastri took the win and Norris got the second place. Albon took two points for Williams on his birthday, making his team proud of him. Ferrari finished P5 and P6, the same positions of the start of the race.
It was absolute domination, the orange team seemed unstoppable and hungry for success in this Chinese GP. Will anyone be able to stop them? we will have to wait for the japanese GP to discover that
Come sempre, ottima recensione.
